Who is Akash Ambani?

Akash Ambani is the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom operator that TIME described as India’s largest, and the managing director of Jio Platforms, which listed on 28 October 2026 1217. He is the elder son of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani and the twin brother of Isha Ambani 213. The twins share a birthday on 23 October; SCMP’s report of their 28th birthday in 2019 points to 1991 26. Reuters gave his age as 35 at the Jio listing 9.

He has sat on the Jio board since October 2014 and on the board of Reliance Industries as a non-executive director since 2023 410. Shareholders approved the Reliance seat in October 2023 with over 98% of votes in favour 11. Forbes’ profile of his father says: “Son Akash heads Jio” 16.

What does Akash Ambani run at Jio?

Reliance Jio Infocomm’s board named him chairman at a meeting on 27 June 2022, when Mukesh Ambani resigned as a director of the telecom company 3. Pankaj Mohan Pawar became managing director for five years at the same meeting, and Mukesh Ambani stayed chairman of Jio Platforms 3.

On 9 April 2026 the Jio Platforms board appointed Akash Ambani managing director for five years, subject to shareholder approval 5. Reliance’s board profile also lists him as a director of Reliance Retail Ventures, JioStar India, Reliance Intelligence and Reliance Foundation 1. Jio had 542.4 million subscribers, 300 million of them on 5G, when it reported its first results as a listed company 7. See Akash Ambani’s companies.

Reliance credits him with helping bring in more than $20 billion from investors including Meta and Google, and with the launch of low-cost devices such as the JioPhone 1. Business Today reported that he worked with the engineering team behind the JioPhone, launched in 2017 2.

Jio IPO and Akash’s role

Mukesh Ambani announced the filing of Jio Platforms’ draft prospectus at Reliance’s annual meeting on 19 June 2026 31. The issue was a fresh sale of up to 27 crore shares at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 each, raising up to ₹30,213 crore, India’s largest IPO 6. Reliance owned 66.43% of Jio Platforms before the issue, and Meta and Google held 9.98% and 7.73% as of 31 March 2026 630.

The shares were priced at ₹1,119 and listed on 28 October 2026 7. PTI put the listing premium at about 26.7% and the market value at about ₹13.1 lakh crore, second only to Reliance 7. Telangana Today reported the shares 21.42% higher at ₹1,358.70 on the BSE at 11.01 am, so reported debut gains differ 8.

At the listing ceremony at the NSE in Mumbai, he said: “The three of us have taken the baton from your ever loving and supporting hands” 9. On his first Reliance investor call, on 30 October, he said demand had passed ₹7.5 lakh crore for an issue of about ₹30,000 crore 7. Reuters quoted an unnamed executive as saying he manages relationships with large investors such as Meta and takes part in the bigger decisions, not daily operations 9.

Akash Ambani net worth

Forbes and Hurun do not publish a separate figure for him; both rank his father’s family fortune 1617. The 360 ONE Wealth Creators List 2026, published on 29 July 2026 with Crisil Intelligence, does list him individually, at ₹2,77,034 crore ($29.64 billion) 1415. 360 ONE did not publish the date on which it valued holdings 15. At the RBI reference rate of ₹94.3996 per dollar on 5 November 2026, $29.64 billion is about ₹2.80 lakh crore 18.

360 ONE links the figure to Reliance Industries 14. His direct holding in Reliance was 0.12% in the June 2025 quarter, the same as each of his parents and siblings, while the promoter group held about 50.07% 21. He married Shloka Mehta on 9 March 2019 at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai 23. She is the daughter of diamantaire Russell Mehta, managing director of Rosy Blue, and co-founded ConnectFor, an online volunteering platform 22. They have two children, a son born in December 2020 and a daughter born in May 2023 2425.
